The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) is the research institute of the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, where scientists and healthcare professionals work together to improve the understanding and treatment of cancer. We are internationally leading in cancer research and use artificial intelligence (AI) to make care and research smarter and more personalized.
Our researchers use AI to identify patterns in medical images and patient data. This helps doctors detect cancer earlier, tailor treatments to individual patients, and reduce side effects.
At the AI for Oncology Lab, a collaboration with the University of Amsterdam, we develop techniques to predict whether a treatment will be effective. In the POP-AART Lab, together with UvA and technology company Elekta, we explore how AI can help better tailor radiotherapy to individual patients. Researchers are also developing intelligent MRI techniques that can detect breast cancer more quickly and software that automatically analyzes medical images to support doctors in their diagnoses.
As a partner of Amsterdam AI, we share our expertise in data-driven healthcare and oncology research. Together with other knowledge institutions, hospitals, and companies, we are building reliable, transparent, and responsible AI applications that truly make a difference for patients.
