VU Amsterdam updates ALP guide on AI and academic writing

Society

VU Amsterdam has published a revised version of its ALP guide on AI and writing proficiency. The guide is aimed at lecturers and addresses the effects of generative AI on writing skills, writing education, and the assessment of writing assignments.

The writing skills lecturers at VU Amsterdam continuously reflect on how generative AI affects writing education. That process of reflection has resulted in a revision of the existing pages on AI and writing proficiency, now available through the updated ALP guide for lecturers.

The revised guide addresses three central themes: the effects of generative AI on students’ writing skills, the implications for writing education, and the assessment of writing assignments in an era where AI tools are widely available. The publication is intended for lecturers who encounter these developments in their teaching practice.
