De Hogeschool van Amsterdam heeft dit studiejaar de pilot gelanceerd van ‘HvA AI Chat’, een chatbotprogramma dat technologie gebruikt vergelijkbaar met ChatGPT, Claude en Gemini.

Initially, the application is available to staff members, with the goal of eventually giving all students access.

The project was initiated to ensure that the HvA can actively engage with developments in generative AI while reducing its dependence on large technology companies. By developing the chatbot internally, the university keeps full control over its data.

In terms of functionality, the chatbot is expected to perform comparably to commercial versions in both speed and quality. However, users are advised to remain critical: the system does not truly “understand” what it writes, and it remains essential to verify its output carefully.

During the pilot phase, smaller experiments are already underway, for instance, within specific courses where teachers and students explore how this tool can support the learning process.

An evaluation is planned for 2026 to determine whether the application will be scaled up and made available to all students.
