VU Amsterdam offers minor in digital humanities and social data analytics through Aurora Network

Society

VU Amsterdam is offering a minor in Digital Humanities and Social Data Analytics in the 2026-2027 academic year, aimed at bachelor students who want to explore the intersection of social sciences, humanities, and computer science. The minor is fully funded as part of the Aurora university network.

The minor targets students in computer science, social and political sciences, and humanities, and has a strongly interdisciplinary character. Its central focus is on how culture, media, and society can be analysed as data, and which digital methods are available to do so. Students learn to uncover patterns, trends, and narratives while reflecting on the broader societal implications of technology.

The programme is taught entirely in English and takes a project-based approach that emphasises collaboration in diverse groups. The course runs from 31 August 2026 to 29 January 2027 and carries 30 ECTS credits. Participation requires an English language level of C1 and basic programming skills in Python. Upon completion, students receive a transcript of records as well as an Aurora Microcredential.

Students who wish to participate must be nominated. Nominations, including full name and VU email address, can be submitted to [email protected]. The deadline for nominations is 23 June 2026. Students whose nominations are approved will then receive an application form by email, with a submission deadline of 6 July 2026.
