Nvidia invests $2 billion in Amsterdam-based AI cloud provider Nebius

The global demand for AI infrastructure is accelerating rapidly, and Europe is stepping up. Nvidia has announced a $2 billion investment in Amsterdam-based Nebius, marking a significant milestone in the development of large-scale AI cloud capacity on European soil.

The investment is part of a broader strategic partnership between Nvidia and Nebius to build a new generation of AI cloud infrastructure. At the center of this collaboration are large-scale data centers designed specifically for AI workloads, often referred to as AI factories.

These facilities are built to support the full lifecycle of AI, from training and fine-tuning models to deploying applications at scale. The partnership spans the entire AI stack, combining advanced hardware with software environments optimized for AI development and deployment.

The scale of the ambition is significant. Nebius aims to deploy more than 5 gigawatts of AI compute capacity by 2030, powered by Nvidia systems. This level of infrastructure reflects the growing global demand for compute and the increasing importance of access to high-performance AI resources.

The investment also underlines a broader shift in the AI ecosystem. Companies like Nebius represent a new category of cloud providers focused specifically on AI workloads. These “neocloud” players are building infrastructure tailored to the needs of AI-native companies as well as large enterprises scaling their AI capabilities.

For Europe, this development is both strategic and symbolic. Access to AI infrastructure is becoming a key factor in competitiveness, innovation, and digital autonomy. Investments of this scale contribute to reducing dependency on non-European providers while strengthening the local ecosystem.

For Amsterdam, the message is clear. The city is not only a place where AI is developed and applied, but increasingly a place where the underlying infrastructure is built. As global players invest in local capacity, Amsterdam’s role in the international AI landscape continues to grow.
