Google invests in new AI Hub in Amsterdam

Society

Amsterdam is set to host a major new center for AI companies: the AI Hub. The initiative aims to boost artificial intelligence development in the Netherlands and reduce dependence on foreign tech giants. Interestingly, Google has joined as a key partner.

Amsterdam will soon host a major new AI Hub — a 10,000-square-meter space where dozens of Dutch AI companies will work side by side. The project, initiated by Techleap and supported by several entrepreneurs, aims to accelerate AI innovation and collaboration in the Netherlands.

Prince Constantijn van Oranje, special envoy at Techleap, calls the hub essential for the country’s technological future. “AI is developing at lightning speed. Companies need places to exchange ideas, attract talent, and meet investors.” Techleap will move in with thirty employees in early 2026, followed by startups later that year.

Google joins the initiative as a strategic partner, funding programs and events rather than the building itself. Martijn Bertisen, Vice President at Google Benelux, says the company wants to support the acceleration of AI development in the Netherlands. “There’s a lot of potential here, but more needs to be done.”

While Google’s involvement may seem contradictory given Europe’s goal of digital autonomy, Van Oranje argues that collaboration is key. “The Netherlands lacks large AI players capable of sharing their technology at scale. Google and Techleap share the vision that the Netherlands deserves a fair opportunity to compete globally.”

The AI Hub complements ongoing initiatives within the AmsterdamAI network, which connects researchers, companies, and the municipality to foster responsible and human-centered AI. Such collaborations highlight Amsterdam’s ambition to bridge global innovation with local impact.
