Five Year Investment in Responsible AI Research – KPMG and AI4FinTech

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) has secured a five-year investment to advance research at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and accountancy. This structural funding enables deeper exploration of both AI applications in auditing and the critical task of auditing AI systems themselves.

Responsible AI at the Forefront

This partnership aligns seamlessly with the AmsterdamAI, Technology for People coalition, of which the UvA is an integral part. The coalition is dedicated to the development and application of responsible AI, ensuring that AI technologies are reliable, ethical, and socially relevant.

“This collaboration is a unique opportunity to strengthen the societal relevance of the AmsterdamAI coalition,” said the project leaders. The investment reinforces the university’s position as a leader in responsible AI research, driving progress in both academic and practical contexts.

Focus on Societal Impact

As AI becomes increasingly embedded in financial systems and beyond, ensuring transparency, accountability, and reliability in AI systems is more crucial than ever. The research program will not only deepen practical applications of AI in accountancy, but also address broader societal questions, such as the ethical implications of AI and its impact on society at large.

This five-year commitment underscores the importance of collaboration between academia and industry in advancing responsible AI practices.
