University of Amsterdam

The UvA invests heavily in AI research and application, both within education and in operational use. Via the Informatics Institute it runs the Amsterdam Machine Learning Lab (AMLab), which among other things works on generative models, causal inference, and robustness in AI algorithms.

The university is also a co-founder of the ICAI labs, where research labs work on societal AI applications in domains such as forensic profiling, medical imaging, and retail models. In addition, the SIAIS group (Socially Intelligent Artificial Systems) focuses on AI that combats inequality, for example in mobility, education, and healthcare.

As a partner of Amsterdam AI, the UvA brings its knowledge and experience in AI research in close connection with societal challenges. In this way, it contributes to the development of responsible AI, partly by combining technical expertise with attention to inclusivity, transparency, and societal impact.
