AI in the Hospital: Physician or Assistant?

The Amsterdam Economic Board’s website recently published an article about the Zorg2025 meeting, where experts discussed AI’s role in healthcare, its potential, and the ethical challenges it brings to the field.

At the Zorg2025 meeting, organized by the Amsterdam Economic Board, discussions centered around the future of AI in healthcare. The event opened with a theatrical monologue depicting a fictional internist facing a disciplinary board after an AI system failed to identify a tumor, setting the tone for ethical reflections on reliance on AI.

Several experts, including representatives from Deloitte and Amsterdam UMC, addressed topics such as the responsibilities of AI versus physicians, patients’ rights to refuse AI-driven care, and the impact of AI on healthcare equity. The day concluded with the announcement that Zorg2025 will be rebranded as Zorg2040 from 2025 onward.
