Healthplus.ai raises €2.3 million to help prevent complications after surgery

Health & Care

Healthplus.ai, a Dutch healthtech and AI startup based in Amsterdam, has raised €2.3 million in a new investment round to further develop and roll out its AI-driven system for predicting and preventing complications after surgical procedures. The funding round was led by Elevating Capital with LUMO Labs as co-lead and additional participation from ROM InWest, Pathena Venture Capital and Leistone.

The core product of Healthplus.ai is PERISCOPE®, an AI system that uses existing patient data from electronic health records to estimate the risk of post-surgery infections for individual patients. By identifying high-risk patients early, clinical teams can take proactive steps to reduce complications, shorten recovery times and lower hospital costs. The system has received ISO and CE certification, allowing it to be deployed in European clinical settings.

PERISCOPE® integrates with leading electronic health record systems such as ChipSoft, Epic and Cerner and analyses multiple data points from a patient’s clinical history to provide risk insights that can inform action by surgeons, nurses and care teams. According to CEO and founder Dr Bart Geerts, the latest funding will help bring clinically validated and regulatory-approved AI into everyday hospital practice while continuing close collaboration with healthcare professionals to ensure meaningful impact on patient outcomes.

The investment is intended to accelerate the company’s expansion in Europe and the United States. Healthplus.ai plans to pursue FDA clearance for the PERISCOPE® system in the U.S. market and to further refine and expand its AI models to cover a wider range of perioperative complications. Integration with major hospital information systems is also a priority to support seamless adoption in clinical workflows.

Investors see strong potential in Healthplus.ai’s approach to improving surgical care. Roel Waals, founding partner of Elevating Capital, says the team has strong execution capabilities and a scalable business model with clear contributions to the future of healthcare. Andy Lurling of LUMO Labs highlights the importance of understanding clinical needs and demonstrating real impact, along with navigating regulatory and certification challenges that are common in the medical AI sector.

Healthplus.ai is already active in markets including the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and the United Kingdom, and early pilots are underway in additional regions as it prepares for further international growth. The company’s work exemplifies how AI can be used to support clinical decision making and improve patient outcomes by enabling more proactive and personalized care.
