NGF AiNed Fellowship Grant for research into voice diagnostics >
NWO's NGF AiNed Fellowship Grant has been awarded to ‘Responsible AI for Voice Diagnostics’, a project led by Cristian Tejedor Garcia of Radboud University's Center for Language Studies. The project's goal is to develop new forms of speech technology that provide AI-assisted diagnosis and management of neuro-degenerative disease and AI-assisted support for improvement of pronunciation and reading skills.

The technologies for image and video analysis and understanding have seen tremendous improvement in recent years. This is thanks to the emergence of modern deep learning network architectures (e.g., variants of RNNs such as LSTMs/GRUs, Generative Adversarial Networks, Transformers, Diffusion models) and learning paradigms (e.g., adversarial learning, deep reinforcement learning, contrastive learning) and the existence of large-scale datasets with ground-truth annotations that can assist the training of these architectures.

NWO funding for VU's DoPredict Project led by VU professor >
On March 26, 2024, the DoPredict research project, led by Professor of Biophotonics and Medical Imaging Marloes Groot at Vrije Universiteit (VU), received funding through the NWO's Open Technology Program. This project focuses on developing a system for quickly and easily predicting the outcomes of lung treatments by testing combinations of drugs on a small piece of patient tissue.

NWO AiNed Fellowship grant awarded to Filip Ilievski >
On March 21, 2024, Assistant Professor of Artificial Intelligence Filip Ilievski was awarded a 900k€ AiNed AI Fellowship for his project "Human-Centric AI Agents with Common Sense". The AiNed AI Fellowships are a competitive program by NWO designed to attract international AI talent to the Netherlands. This grant, along with internal and external co-funding, will enable Ilievski to assemble a team of six young researchers.

Gravitation grant for challenges in cyber security >
On March 26, 2024, it was announced that UvA scientists Christian Schaffner, Zoltan Mann, Francesco Regezzoni, Kostas Papagiannopoulos, and Karst Koymans from the Informatics Institute (IvI) are involved in an ambitious project aimed at tackling challenges in cyber security. This project is one of three consortia that have received a Gravitation Grant from the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science.
