The Creative Media for Social Change research group at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA) is organising a closed event on Monday 11 May titled ‘en/counter ai’. The day brings together critical examination of AI and open exploration of new technology, and two spots have been made available to participants from the research group’s wider network.
The programme is structured around two contrasting but related directions. The first, ‘countering ai’, involves taking time for critical reflection and pushing back against AI applications that participants do not believe in. The second, ‘encountering ai’, focuses on getting acquainted with AI and openly exploring the possibilities of new technology.
Researcher-designers Frank Kloos and Maaike van Cruchten will guide participants through what is described as the sometimes absurd world of AI applications, drawing on a year and a half of research into the relationship between humans and AI. The programme includes time for reflection, a tourist outing, guerrilla gardening, hacking, a transition ritual, and plenty of opportunity to laugh. Specific details of the programme have not been disclosed in advance.
The event runs from 10:00 to 16:00 and takes place at several locations near Amsterdam Sloterdijk station. Participation is free of charge. Those wishing to apply for one of the two available spots can do so by sending an email to Tamara Witschge at [email protected] before Wednesday 29 April, including a brief introduction and explanation of why they would like to attend.
