The Optiver & AI4Fintech Trading Academy at University of Amsterdam

Service Sector

AI4FinTech is excited to announce the launch of the Optiver & University of Amsterdam (UvA) Trading Academy, an exclusive educational program organized jointly with Optiver for students at the University of Amsterdam.

The academy offers a unique opportunity for students to explore the world of financial markets and algorithmic trading through a combination of academic insights and industry expertise.

The program will be led by Optiver industry expert Robbert Pullen, who will guide participants through the foundations of financial markets and options theory, before progressing to the development and testing of algorithmic trading strategies in Python.

A key component of the program is hands-on experience with Optibook, Optiver’s simulated exchange environment. Students will apply the concepts learned in the sessions by building and testing their own trading algorithms in a realistic market setting.

What participants will gain

Students who join the Trading Academy will:

  • Gain a deep understanding of financial markets, options theory, and algorithmic trading — no prior financial background required.
  • Work directly on a simulated market exchange, experiencing what trading looks like at a leading global market maker.
  • Design and optimize a Python-based trading algorithm using realistic market data.
  • Receive a certificate from Optiver after successfully completing the program and participating in the final algorithmic trading competition.

This initiative reflects the shared commitment of AI4FinTech, Optiver, and the University of Amsterdam to bridge cutting-edge research, education, and industry practice in quantitative finance and financial technology.

Students interested in gaining hands-on experience in algorithmic trading are encouraged to register and take advantage of this unique opportunity.
