In this KINTalk, Tim Vermeulen (Alliander/Liander) examines how AI ethics is turned into concrete decisions in critical infrastructure.
The talk addresses the tension between efficiency, fairness, and explainability in AI systems deployed at scale. Using examples from Liander, Tim Vermeulen will discuss how algorithmic bias emerges, how it evolves over time, and why governance mechanisms are essential when AI becomes part of daily operations.
Key themes include large-scale use of production models, strategic asset management choices, and boundaries for using AI to monitor, support, or evaluate employees. He will also share how Liander’s dedicated ethics committee operates in practice and what makes ethical oversight effective beyond policy documents.
The program runs from a short introduction (17:15), followed by the main presentation (17:20–18:20), audience Q&A (18:20–18:30), and networking drinks (18:30–19:00). This session is especially relevant for professionals in AI, governance, compliance, and infrastructure. Registration is open until 9 February to secure a seat.
