Growy: a mission to feed the world through vertical farming

Growy, an Amsterdam-based vertical farming company, is committed to providing local and affordable food amidst global challenges such as sustainability and food safety.

Ard van de Kreeke, founder and farmer of Growy, transformed the old vertical farm Growx into a leading high-tech vertical farming venture named Growy. Located in the industrial area of Amsterdam Zuidoost, this farm produces microgreens, herbs, and flowers under tightly controlled conditions. With the ambition to provide efficient and inexpensive farming solutions, Growy utilizes a fully automated, AI-driven Dutch system that manages all operational processes from seeding to packaging.

Growy's approach to vertical farming is not just about creating a high-tech company but primarily about making an impact on the current food system by producing affordable, healthy food. Van de Kreeke emphasizes that despite using advanced technologies, the main goal is to grow food that is both accessible and nutritious, without using pesticides and by utilizing organic waste for water, nutrients, and energy.

Additionally, the company invests in research and development to further advance their systems and technologies, in collaboration with Wageningen University. This research focuses on improving growth, minimizing waste, and enhancing energy efficiency, aiming to revolutionize agricultural practices and support a more sustainable future.
