Dutch AI Awareness and Research Priorities: Key Findings
A study by Waag Futurelab and Ipsos I&O, for the Dutch AI Coalition, assessed Dutch awareness of AI and key AI topics. The majority understand AI well, with few unfamiliar.
Top AI research themes identified by respondents include fake news and polarization (58%), power dynamics and control (37%), and surveillance and accountability (33%).
Simone van der Burg emphasized AI should serve societal goals. Findings will guide NL AIC's Societal program toward responsible AI policy and a people-centered digital democracy, noted Náhani Oosterwijk-Borking. Eppo van Nispen tot Sevenaer highlighted the need to address fake news to protect democratic values.
