AWS: Dutch businesses are adopting AI faster than the European average

New research from AWS shows that Dutch businesses are rapidly adopting AI—at a rate of one new implementation every four minutes, well ahead of the European average.

Dutch companies are embracing artificial intelligence at a remarkable pace. According to a new report from AWS and Strand Partners—presented during the AWS Summit in our city—49 percent of businesses in the Netherlands have adopted AI. That’s significantly higher than the European average of 42 percent.

In total, around 180,000 companies in the Netherlands are now using AI, a 23 percent increase over last year. Adoption spans the entire business landscape: startups and large enterprises are pioneering in their own ways. One-third of Dutch startups are using advanced AI solutions—more than in other EU countries—while 19 percent of large firms have fully integrated AI into their core operations.

The results are tangible. Companies report average revenue increases of 27 percent, with 88 percent seeing direct benefits. Productivity gains are also significant, driven by better data analytics, process automation, and customer engagement. AI investments have risen by 20 percent.

But challenges remain. A lack of digital skills is cited by 45 percent of businesses. Startups, in particular, struggle with access to funding. And regulatory uncertainty is widespread—77 percent of companies don’t fully understand their responsibilities under the EU AI Act.

According to AWS, overcoming these hurdles is key: more investment in skills, improved financing access, and clear guidance on regulation are essential. With the right support, the Netherlands can maintain and grow its leadership position in AI.
