UvA and KPMG join forces for AI and accountancy research

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) and KPMG have launched a five-year collaboration under the AI4FinTech programme. With an annual contribution of €100,000 from KPMG, the initiative focuses on applying AI in accountancy and auditing AI itself, strengthening the bridge between academia and industry in financial technology.

The collaboration between UvA and KPMG within the AI4FinTech programme offers a unique opportunity to conduct research into the reliability and responsible application of AI in accountancy. The programme integrates expertise from the faculties of Economics and Business, Law, and Science, focusing on AI applications in audits and auditing AI itself.

Research into AI reliability
Studies show that companies in the Netherlands are increasingly investing in AI, with generative AI playing a significant role in financial reporting. This highlights the importance of research into AI reliability. Professor AI & Audit and scientific director of AI4FinTech stated, “This partnership is essential for ensuring the Netherlands remains a leader in AI.”

Structural investment and societal impact
KPMG’s annual investment will not only support top-tier research but also enhance societal relevance by contributing practical knowledge. The collaboration aligns with the ‘AmsterdamAI, Technology for People’ coalition, focusing on responsible AI development and application.
